Abstract
Dissenting Position of Umar bin Ali in Arabic
Poetry
Position of literature is highly remarkable,
prominent and noticeable; it has various methods to create sound community with
help of various society leaders. Literature sometimes conquered all credible
situations and dominators who injustice people.
Indo Arabic Literature had a great position in dissenting against
dominant powers and bad deeds.
As we know the well known Arabic poet Umar
binu Ali (1865-1857) born at Veliamcode
Malapuram, He was also a significant part of the Muslim struggle against
the British a leader whose patriotism made him the trademark of anti-British
sentiment of the nation. He was
popularly known as Umar Qazi of Veliyankode – the Sufi poet on horseback. He
shone equally in political and religious life as well. He saw Hindus, Muslims
and Christians as one and the British as the common enemy. He had high esteem
for the Indian rulers gaining great honor in the court of Samudiri. He was an
ideal exponent of communal harmony. He was a living example of the religious
ideals. He attempted with his head and heart in unifying the entire nation for
driving out the British plunderers.
Towards the end of 19th century,
he introduced the first ever Non Taxation Movement previously unheard in the
history of freedom struggle. He openly defied the British orders to pay tax and
had to bear a lot of persecution in consequence. His literature against British community was
great sword, which he wrote when he arrested by British for started his non
taxation movement and abused British rulers; Calicut collector and Chavakkad.
Umer ibnu Ali was the owner of a strong career in Arabic poetry with a strong
background in arts and the knowledge to
strengthen the language and literature especially poetry.
He was
in the centre stage when the lamp of Arabic literature became incapacitated in
the minds of the nation. It is significant that he wrote many praises,
lamentation and other types of poems that he wrote on the walls of many
Masjids. The poem “AL-QASEEDATHUL UMARIYYA FIL MADAHIHU NNABAVIYYA” is reliable
as well as a remarkable poem. Some of his poem had been published from Egypt
and Mumbai, chief among them being his lamentations and prophetic praises.
“QASEDATHU ALLAFAL ASWI” which is organized according to the arabic alphabet at
the beginning and end of the rhyme. “LAHAL HILALU, LAMMA ZAHARA” these two are
important poems that are written in a strange way where the poet used only
neglected and lexical letters respectively.
“MAQASIDUNNIKAH”, “KITHABU NAFAHISU DHURAR” describes the Islamic rules
and laws.
