Dissent from Freedom to Closure :
A Comparative Study of the Select Poems of Jayanta Mahapatra and Nilmani Phookan

Jayanta Mahapatra, one of the prominent Indian poet writing in English, internationally acclaimed for his evocation of the ‘still sad music of humanity’ and Nilmani Phookan , one of the renowned poet writing in Assamese, well-known for his  freshness of imagery, simplicity and restraint of diction, compactness of structures and design ,show dissent in a covert way through various images drawn from their own cultural and natural landscape. Their understanding of the world they inhabit is matured and they note the transition of their region in poetry with precision, clarity and accuracy. What is significant is their objectivity and detachment with which they portray people, place and day to day affairs. They make visible the things what is normally invisible on surface. The paper will show the ways the images are deployed by the poets to show the dissent of the people of their regions from freedom to closure.
