FIRST MARTYR IN THE MARGINALISED COMMUNITY IN THULU NADU

Abstract 

This paper is about the oral tradition of marginalized community in Thulu Nadu. It pays attention to unwritten oral history of Thulu Nadan cultural identity. It is based on the Bhootharadhana or worship of Spirit, most popular performing art in Thulu Nadu. The paper aims to answer very simple question, why it is still existed in the particular in Malabar. Thulu Nadu has their own rich cultural heritage, but it is buried by the elite class people in the society. It should be unearth from the deep part of the Thulu Nadu.  Because majority of the people live in the Thulu Nadu are socially outcaste from the main stream of the society. To up lift these socially downtrodden people in to the main stream of the society, through assert a cultural identity in the society.

It is found that different types of worships of sprit can be found in the verity of tribes in the Thulu Nadu especially Moger community and Mavila community belongs in the coastal areas of both Karnataka and Kerala. In Moger community there are plenty of Bhoothas, such a Koragajja, Kallurity, Panchurulli, Golika Kola etc. all these are the real representatives of God. The peculiar features of these Bhoothas are culturally transmitted one. The community still existed in many parts of coastal area of Kasaragod and Karnataka.  There are no specific records for these forms of art. It is preserved through either orally or culturally in generation to generation. Most of the Bhootha  are very mysterious in characters. Because it is said that, many myths behind each spirits in the Land. It is not an easy task to find out all these myths behind the Bhoothas. This paper is an attempt to find out the cultural and traditional significance of the Bhootharadhan in Thulu Nadu.

There was a man called Koragga Chaniyya among the people who strongly oppressed by the upper class people of that period. The people believe that he is the first martyr from the downtrodden people. His entire life was mysterious one, he assassinated in mystious way, some believes that he was dissolve in to the god. People worshiped his resurrection as Koragajja.    The people of Tulu Nadu were unaware about his resurrection and disappearance. His struggle and social commitment was great inspiration to his society and it influence throughout the generation. He tried hard to assert an identity in the human society, because he was treated as inhuman by land lords of those periods. This paper gives emphases to the contemporary relevance of cultural tradition, through presenting both the visual and written Medias. It is attempts to make a specific identifiable literary tradition of Thulu Literature in the main stream of Indian literature.
